SUMMARY

Desiging an end-to-end experience to provide opportunties to students using LinkedIn's design system

CONTEXT

For this project, I was assigned to create a feature on "How might we helping college students discover and connect to their classmates on LinkedIn?". This led to an internship at LinkedIn. To view more on this project, please click the button below.

PROBLEM

Design an experience that helps college students discover and connect with their classmate.

OUTCOME

🎉 I received an offer from LinkedIn and joined the Careers Growth team during Summer 2021.

02 | DISCOVER

UNDERSTANDING THE LANDSCAPE

In order to better understand our positioning, I spent time reviewing the apps that are mostly used by students. 

I identified the weaknesses and strengths of each app and how it's used across the community of students, understanding the different reasons why students use certain apps to communicate with other students.

BRAINSTORMING

After identifying the problem statement, I did a quick brainstorming session in order to understand the various pain points. Having this brainstorming session helped identify general themes to address moving forward.

Students spend a lot of time finding places to meet other students and it often takes a long time or some end up giving up.

This helped me align all my future decisions with real frustations and needs.

After getting a clear understanding of the user needs and the touchpoints of the flow, I was able to deliver a flow to test on users.

Using the onboarding experience, we can tailor people and campus spaces that appear in the Discover section that match each user's interests.

Students can join spaces and see other students who have joined the Campus Space in their university. This allows students to discover and connect with other classmates.

LESSONS LEARNED

Brainstorming can lead to uncovering opportunities

Important of user research, spending time conducting research helped me gain a comprehensive understanding of the problem.

Adopt a modular and component-based approach to increase efficiency, consistency and flexibility.
